It is our distinct pleasure to wish all of our readers a Happy and Safe 4th of July!
It is that time of year for family summer backyard barbecues and time for reflection of celebrating our nations History and Traditions.
It is great to salute all of the brave men and women that served our great country throughout the history. We should also give a big heartfelt round of thanks and appreciation to the brave men and women that are currently serving our country in the military.
Since this is a blog about design, it would be remiss of me not to share a few photos of red, white and blue decor design ideas. This does not mean that you can only use these ideas during the 4th of July, they can be used all year long. Lets take a look at a few special red, white and blue design ideas for your home. This can be for your kitchen, bathroom, living room, family room and backyard.
One very important thing to remember is that you can be “Literal” or be “Inspired. Taking the latter approach opens up the room and space to lots of possibilities, which is what we all need and enjoy.
Bedroom Styling – Using Wall Color as a Central Focal Point for Theme
There are tons of possibilities for a bedroom when it comes to red, white and blue styling. A very popular inspired look is one that involves a nautical theme. This may include blue and white alone as the primary focal points or it may involve all three colors.
One major option that you have is to paint the bedroom walls a nice blue color. When choosing the wall colors for your bedroom painting remodel project, if there is not much natural light, you want to be cautious with going too dark. If you want to use a rich blue color on the walls and are concerned with it being too dark, consider a lighter paint color on the outer walls and a deep rich blue as an accent or focal point.
A few popular blues for a nautical theme wall include the following:
Benjamin Moore Stunning – 826 – This color is part of the Benjamin Moore Classic Color Collection. This is a deep rich color that is great for use as an accent wall.
Benjamin Moore Breath of Fresh Air – 806 – This color is part of the Classic Color Collection. It is a soft yet rich powder blue color. The Benjamin Moore Breath of Fresh Air – 806 color is great for an entire room. It is a soothing, yet relaxing color that is not dull or too bright. It makes a perfect companion for a deep rich color accent wall, such as the Benjamin Moore Stunning – 826.
Bedroom Styling: Using Linens to style the room
You should always be open to the idea of options when styling your room decor with red, white and blue theme that is nautical. I personally believe that it is best to be inspired sometimes over literal because it just allows you to change or add to the room without much effort.
Using Linens that have your colors are a great option for this type of room styling. One of my favorite resources as a designer is the Internet retailer Wayfair.com, they offer thousands of great items at remarkably low prices. The great thing is that all of the products are shipped to your home and there is no need to drive around to several places. Your fingertips and keyboard does all the heavy lifting for you.
This brings us to the fabulous Mineola Comforter set by Nautica. It is bold and exciting and not over the top. It is definitely for the person looking for the adult feel to the nautical, red, white and blue theme. The large red pillows and deep rich comforter gives you the feeling of luxury to any room. This bedding ensemble would go great in a room that is painted with neutral wall colors. It is a quick easy addition that gives you the nautical feel. You can’t forget to add the large and small decorative pillows for the complete look. I know that some couples argue and debate amongst themselves over the importance of the additional pillows for the bedding, but in the end, if you want your bed to have that perfect designer look, you have to add the additional pillows. It is that accessory item that makes completes the look and makes you go “wow” when you walk into a room. Don’t settle for boring! Add that special little touch to make your bedroom look fantastic.
Bathroom Styling: Using Shower curtain and linens to style the room
The bathroom should be an inviting atmosphere. Since most bathrooms have a small footprint, it is wise not to go overboard since you can make a small space look smaller if you put the wrong items and colors together. I like to use shower curtains when my project calls for a specific theme. This is a great way to be inspired and to have options for changing down the road if someone wants to enhance the theme or go into a different direction.
There are several great makers of shower curtains to choose from for your nautical theme bathroom. One of my favorites is a Blue Anchor shower curtain design by Thomas Paul, which is available online at Wayfair.com at a very affordable price. The design is clean and crisp yet it brings in the right amount of color for the bathroom and definitely takes the right approach to the theme with the brilliantly designed Anchor.
Linens for the bathrooms make great accents for the nautical theme. You can use beautifully designed towels with rich bold colors to make your case for the theme. Accents are my favorites when working on smaller spaces, it gives us so much more opportunity to be creative without too many restrictions.
