Holiday Home Organizing Tips and Tricks

Now that the Holidays have come to an end it is time to organize things and put the house back in order.  You have to put away the tree, the stockings, lights and all of festive trimmings that have been up since Thanksgiving. Don't you just dread it?  Sometimes it makes you re-evaluate why we do it in the first place.  I remember, now, it is fun and pleasant to enjoy. But a nightmare and a pain to take down for some.

If you are like me, the one Retailer that I love shopping for home organization items, is Bed Bath and Beyond.  It doesn't hurt that they constantly offer discounts and coupons.  For years, I looked forward to getting my 20% off coupon in the mail. It was something that I savoured, because I knew that I would always find something that I needed to make a purchase in the store.

Since we have evolved into the electronic age, I now receive my Bed Bath & Beyond Coupons online.  They send me an e-newsletter with lots of links to beautiful items.  It doesn't hurt that they usually offer Free or discounted shipping with a minimum purchase. Since I am one that can't pass up a deal, I usally take advantage of the additional savings.

This year, Bed Bath & Beyond partnered with the magazine REAL SIMPLE, for a special feature on getting organized after the holidays.  Very clever  since REAL SIMPLE is great for organization and practical How-To-Tips for the home.

The e-newsletter included a feature article on Creative Organizing Solutions by REAL SIMPLE and Bed Bath & Beyond. It shared  great tips and useful products that you can purchase online or in the store. I was impressed with the layout and information. I can see myself using a few items at home or suggesting them to a customer.

Here are a couple of highlights from the Holiday Home Organizing Solutions Checklist. I have also provided additional links on Home Organization after the holidays. Let us know what you think or if you have any tips of your own to share.

  • Assess the clutter. Start by creating three categories: keep, donate, and toss. As you work your way through the   items in the attic, assign each one to a category.
  •  Donate or toss. Contact local charities and arrange for donation pickup or toss items that are of no use.
  •  Label the items you are keeping and create categories, such as out-ofseason clothing, tax returns, etc.
  •  Choose shelving. Consider using metal or wood shelving. Depending on the location in your home, they both work.
  •  Use plastic storage boxes. Since plastic containers, protect their contents better, seal tighter, they are your best bet.
  •  Install Hooks and Pegs to hang items and save space. They are great in closets, corners, etc.
