Once again the design gurus at Pantone have come up with the Color of the Year that is awe inspiring. This year is no exception. The 2018 Pantone Color of the Year is Ultra Violet. The color is a rich purple color that would surely get the glowing approval Rock Icons Prince, Bowie, and Hendrix who all used shades of Ultra Violet during their career. The ever so popular sitcom Friends also used Ultra Violet front and center in Monica’s apartment. The color is deep, piercing and thought provoking.
When you see the color, you can’t help but wonder what inspired this color. The great thing about this ultra violet color is that it makes a great accent color. If you are looking for a color to wake up an area in your home decor, this color will definitely do the trick.
The Pantone Institute summed it up perfectly with the following sentiments on the 2018 Pantone Color of The Year:
A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.
The team over at Elle Decor does a fabulous job of showcasing great color schemes. The amazing photo of the purple room is an iconic representation of how to do a classic purple designed room. The internationally renowned photographer, Mikkel Vang tells an amazing story with this purple room photo. The purple cross hatch designed rug is inviting and can go with any decor, transitional, classic or modern. The gold nesting tables do a great job of tying in the gold thread that is going through the purple rug.
The great thing about the ultra violet Pantone color of the year is that you can integrate this many ways into your interior decor. There are accent rugs that you can use to bring in the color and add vibrancy to a room. In your kitchen or bathroom you can use the color by painting the wall color to bring life to the room. You can also use the color in a glass tile in the kitchen remodel project in a glass mosaic backsplash. This is a bold and inviting color that is sure to be in several glass mosaics in 2018.
It is fun to see how creative you can be with including a pop of color in an accent feature in a room. This craftsman 1935 Arts & Crafts Style bungalow showcases this concept splendidly. The Stringer-Nye family totally kept the charm and essence of the old style and modernized it with contemporary colors. The fireplace has purple accent tiles and the master bathroom has a wall of accent purple tiles. This pop of color adds just the right amount of color to the rooms. The master bathroom also has two pendant lights that are a vibrant purple color.
